Looking for an End Portal in Minecraft? There is only one route to go to The End. That's the End Portal. It takes commitment to jump into a new dimension. Once you've entered the End Portal, you can't return.
We are sure you have your own reasons to visit The End. Maybe you want to take down the terrifying Ender Dragon Perhaps you're in need of some precious resources like End Stone or Chorus, or perhaps, like us you simply love the dark and endless view of the vast void. Whatever your reason, you'll have to hop into an End Portal to get there.
You can only find End Portals in the portal room of the stronghold. To find a stronghold, you need to use Eye of Enders to lead you to their location, before digging quite deep into the earth to locate it. When you've done that, you'll find it suspended over an lava pool. Most End Portals already have Eyes of Ender in place, with an 80% chance of creating with an existing eye.
When you enter the activated End Portal will instantly transport you to the End and there is no way of stopping it. Once you've reached the End, you'll spawn in the middle of an island, with smaller islands visible to explore. You will need to defeat the Ender Dragon on the main island in order to access the islands to the west or leave The End. This will open an opportunity to either complete the game' and then return to the regular Minecraft overworld as we know it - or explore the other islands.
How do I create an End portal in Minecraft
In survival mode, you'll have to locate a stronghold in order to activate an End Portal - in creative you can make your own. Here's how to activate an End Portal:
12 x Eyes of Ender 12 x Portal Frame Blocks
Draw a 3x3-sized area on the ground. Once you are within the area, you can line your Portal Frame Blocks around the perimeter of the 3x3 square.
You can activate the End Portal by placing all 12 Eyes of Ender in the appropriate blocks regardless of whether or not you built it yourself or located one in a Stronghold. The portal won't be opened if only one Eye of Ender is placed horizontally. You'll know that it's working when you can't see the lava (if you're looking at the stronghold version) or the ground (your own version).
